M-K-T Railway Office Building

701 Commerce St. - 1912; 1984

This building was designed in 1912 for the offices of the Missouri, Kansas, & Texas Railway.  It housed the offices of the railroad for over 50 years, but eventually the railroad was absorbed by other companies.  The building was restored in 1984 and minor renovations occurred in 1995.  The architect for the restoration was Thomas S. Woodward & Associates.  This is a beautiful building is south of the West End and has lost many of the early 20th Century structures that once were located in the vicinity.  The building today houses individual offices that mainly cater to the legal profession due to its close proximity to the Dallas County government buildings.
