Magnolia Petroleum Co. Gas Station

2120 Commerce St. - 1930

In 1930, the Magnolia Petroleum Co. constructed this two story gas station on a triangular piece of property at the intersection  of Commerce, Central, and Jackson Streets.  The building has a mix of both Gothic and Art Deco elements.  The most notable feature of the building is the arcaded filling station on the first floor at the apex of the triangle.  This area is no longer used to sell gas, but is used for covered parking.  The second floor houses office space.  It is very unusual to see a two story gas station.  In the 1970's this building was the home of radio station KLIF.   Since then, a variety of businesses have used the second floor as offices.
