One Main Place
1201 Main - 1968
Completed in 1968, this concrete and glass building was to be part of a
multi-building development centered on Main Street. The additional
buildings were never constructed. One Main Place was designed by
Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill (SOM) of New York. The design of
each wall features concrete panels with deeply recessed rectangular window
openings. Near the base of the building each wall is slightly
flared. At the base of the tower is a sunken plaza that is lined
with shops, one level below grade that is also connected to the
underground system of walkways that run between various buildings.
One Main Place is 445 feet tall with 34 stories and is the 25th tallest
building in Dallas. |
